久手堅の大アカギ　（Kudaken no Oo-akagi/Bishop Wood of Kudaken）

このアカギは、百数十年前、首里城の改修工事の際、伐採され、その後、切り株から芽を出した（萌芽）ものである。3本の樹幹が合わさって現在の形をつくっている。石灰岩台地の緑のあたる湿った場所に生息しており、平成14年度3月の村道（当時）改修工事の際にも地元からの要望で譲られた。
　生育地の北側には久手堅集落の水源地である、「上ヌカー」があり、また、根人田跡にも隣接する。久手堅の水利事業の発祥地でもあり、すぐ近くに世界遺産の「斎場御嶽」もある歴史深い場所である。　市の天然記念物に指定され、地域から親しまれている。

 

This akagi (bishop wood) tree, cut down during repair work of Shuri Castle a few hundred years ago, newly germinated from the stump. Three trees make the current figure. Growing in a moist area of the limestone plateau, this tree was given over by local request when the village road was being repaired in March 2002. At the north side of the location, there is a water source for Kudekan Village called “Kaminukaa” adjacent to Niichu-ta ruins. This is also the original spot of the water project in Kudeken, and the sacred Sefa-utaki is close at hand, so this whole area is of historical importance. The tree is designated a natural treasure of the city and is popular among local people.
